To wheat or not to wheat.

Posted in Nutritionalisation on May 9th, 2010 by Miller

Wheat and most all grass grains present two challenges for our bodies. Certainly for people who are trying to loose weight and/or fat.

The two main issues are IRRITATION and even ALLERGIC reaction and rate of absorption in the body.
ALLERGIC? Everybody eats bread and grains! millions of people are highly allergic to the proteins in the grains which can cause damage to the small intestine. Tens of millions more suffer from IRRITABILITY like bloating or lethargy.  I believe Triticum (standard white wheat flour)  is the worst culprit of these because it is an entirely man made hybrid of grain.

Other negative effects of many grains are the speedy rate in absorption of glucose into the bloodstream for energy. Many foods do this at a rate that is even faster than that of eating glucose itself!!! The long term damage from over production of insulin in order to manage blood sugar may lead to illnesses such as type 2 diabetes!

Why not try what I recommend to so many of my clients and be your OWN investigative physician by listening carefully to your body. Here’s my challenge:

1. Eliminate ALL grain from your diet. Including any grain fermented alcohol for two weeks.

2. Introduce ONE grain only at week three and see how your body responds and how eating
makes you feel and look.  If you do not like how you body responds in any way (weight, bloating, tiredness, skin tone, bowel movements)  then eliminate and the following week try another grain.

3.  If the grain you have introduced does suit just fine, them add another one to the diet the following week and repeat step two until you have tried and eliminated or incorporated them all.

You will be amazed at what your body tells you when you listen carefully.

Are you a camel…?

You need to start drinking more water .  About 50% of you is made of water!  But if you do not drink enough on a daily basis, you sure to be storing water in your tissues to compensate for the fact that you are not consuming enough.
Seen a camel?  Thats you. And don’t think your body does not do the same exact thing!!!  So to avoid looking like a bloated beast crossing the sahara your body needs to trust you.  Yes it needs to trust that you will consistently give it enough water on a daily basis before it stops storing it!  How much should I drink  you ask?  Well  it depends on your size the weather and your daily activity but safe to say between 2 and 4 liters!!!
One way to make this more easily palatable as well as to alkalinize your body is to add a squeeze of fresh lemon to your water.  Yes Yes i know lemon and citric ACID are acidic , but lemon juice actually  processes in your body as ALKALINE and is an easy way to keep your body in a more alkaline state generally.  This is important on the most basic cellular level because our cells are in essence tiny batteries – ones which operate optimally in an alkaline environment.

Now get drinking! You should have had about a liter by the time you finished reading this!

The Exception to the Rule

Granny

This is my ‘Great’ Aunt Lil. She sent me this little picture last week to rub my face in it. Lil has never had time for what I do; she’s always telling me exercise and a healthy lifestyle is a waste of time. But I don’t believe ol’ Lil made a century without doing some serious exercise on the sly – look at the size of those fingers; she’s been doing my Hands-On Hands program for starters.

The Miller The Pillar Sandwich Filler

Hey Nutrionalites,

I thought I’d share this old newspaper article with you, so you know the Pillar has always been killer when it comes to sandwich filler.

http://articles.latimes.com/2003/sep/04/news/wk-alt4

Canter’s deli couldn’t understand why everyone had suddenly gone cold turkey with their warm turkey. They needed to shift some serious bird quick, so called me in. I fused it with coleslaw, melted muenster cheese, concentrated Yuk puree and some Russian dressing. After a slow start, they took out the Yuk puree and something suddenly clicked – the sandwich was a hit, and to say thanks, they’ve named it after me! Cheers guys!

Step Up to the Plate

PlateColoured

Look what I found! This is a new plate from Japan which should hit the UK early 2013. It counts the calories so you don’t have to. But I’m worried; look at the prototype pic; they’ve only got three digits on the calorie counter??!! Also, a plate that size wouldn’t house even an 1/8th of a Pillar portion.

Don’t these people realise I haven’t already got enough on my plate? Needs more work guys.

BottlesColoureThese guys have got in touch with me, hoping to launch a new brand of water-weight bottle. The all new ‘Plutonium Water Bottle’ range.

Plastic is out and Plutonium is in! It’s the densest, heaviest metal known to man; which the company hope will give their customers a harder, more intense work out.  They also want to fill the new bottles with Rhino charge!
There are a few small teething problems; Rhino Charge stored in plutonium dissolves teeth, but the manufacturers are confident they can overcome this and are working around the clock to get the range in a sports shop near you soon.

Spamalloni Con Scotch Egg.

Spamelloni Illustration

On a nutrition mission but got no time?

You can knock this bad boy up real quick. You will need:

14 x tins of economy Spam

42 x Large Scotch Eggs

70 x Lasagne Sheets.

5 x Jars of ‘Dolmio Big Chunk’ Sauce.

A large oven.

Place the lasagne sheets in boiling water for 8 minutes until soft enough to roll. During this time, open the economy spam tins into a large bowl, ensuring you squeeze all the spam through your fingers thoroughly. This doesn’t do anything; it just feels good while you’re waiting for those lasagne sheets.

Drain lasagne sheets and lay out. Empty Spam contents on and roll. You should get 2 large Spamalloni rolls from these ingredients. Find an abnormally large oven dish and place on your newly rolled goodness. Pour over the Dolmio Big Chunk and cook in the oven for 35 minutes on Gas Mark 6.

Serve on a bed of scotch egg for a truly tasty carb-onated treat.

Love thy neighbour? Then put those prying eyes to use with my new NeighbourFood Watch scheme. Next time you are poke-nosing through the dining room window of the house opposite, check what’s on their plate. If you don’t see at least 2 of their 5 a day on there, you call me.

With my new blades I can be anywhere in London in 1 ½ half minutes for a Pillar Pep Talk.

Just call 0800-NO-VEG. Calls cost 35p from landlines, mobiles may be higher.

O thou Caffeine, heaven sent or evil temptress?

Posted in Nutritionalisation on March 17th, 2010 by Miller

“Should I get rid of caffeine in my diet?”, is one of the most frequent nutritional questions I hear.
Unfortunately the answer is not simply yes or no. Overindulgence/dependence in ANYTHING is not healthful but the benefits of caffeine for increased effort and alertness are some of the best documented of any drug. Lets look at both sides and you decide.

caffeine-lined-paper1

So how do we balance the two?
Not all caffeines are created equal, and caffeine is only one of several xanthene alkaloids present in certain plants like coffee, cocoa, tea, and guarana. Coffee for instance puts me to sleep and typically does not agree with me. Guaruana in energy drinks has no effect on me at all.  Cocoa gives me a huge buzz feeling.  Your reaction on those same products will be unique to you.

For those of you seeking a stimulant beverage option, my suggestion is : Find the caffeinated product that best agrees with YOUR body and USE IT but don’t ABUSE IT! therefore a greater effect rather than damaging side-effects of overuse and dependency!
